Police seek the help of driving schools to eradicate crime

Driving schools have always played an important role in educating learner drivers. There are several driving schools in Kingston which provide users with a first-hand driving experience at a minimal cost. In addition to this, driving schools are helping police to bring down the crime rate.

A key example of this is in Thorpe Bay, where police officials have found a unique way to enlist candidates for a new security scheme. The officials aim to obtain the help of driving schools to maintain a constant vigilance in the locality. Warren Lamb, the Neighbourhood Specialist Officer, suggested that police authorities will seek the support of driving school instructors in tracking down prank callers or stalkers. The driving school operators are encouraged to report suspicious behaviour as they drive through a specific area.

This unique approach is known as the ‘Driving school watch’ and is a part of the Neighbourhood Action Panel, a scheme designed to reduce criminal activity in each neighbourhood. After all, the police can always do with a pair of extra eyes when monitoring local activities.

Schools in several areas, including driving schools in Southend, have already consented to be a part of this scheme.

Mick Holland, the Community Engagement Officer for CDRP, has congratulated the authorities and individuals involved. He has also stated that this particular approach will be implemented in other wards.

To encourage safety amongst the new drivers, the government has announced new set of rules for learner drivers. These new rules extend the demerit point system and they will help the drivers to drive safe when handling the steering wheel.

David Campbell, the Minister of Transport, said that the new law and system apply from September 28, and the new rules mean that a learner may lose their driving licence.

He further said that the learner drivers will also get a minimum of four points for driving at an excessively high speed and their licence will be suspended for three months.

If learner drivers are caught speeding a car in a 30mph zone then their licence will be suspended for six months and those caught speeding the car on a 45 miles per hour limit road may have their licence suspended for 9 months, Mr Campbell said.

He also said that if drivers continue driving after their suspension order then there would be heavy penalties for them, which includes a jail sentence and disqualification from driving.

Lastly, these new rules imposed by the government will promote the right way to drive a car and this will result in a lower number of accidents. So, learner drivers need to follow the rules and make sure that they are driving under the speed limit; otherwise they could end up losing their licence.

The crime graph in Birmingham is high, as the number of fraudulent driving licenses is increasing. In the last six months, three people were arrested for faking driving licenses. The fraudsters got someone else to clear their driving test for them. Police revealed that they were called several times to identify the one who is on the driver’s seat and giving the test.

This problem in Birmingham is so severe that it is been marked as one of the “country’s hot spots.” PC Steve Rogers from the police department of East Midlands said that the investigators from the Driving Standard Agency and the police worked together against these cheaters.

He also said that there are people on the streets driving cars, who have never even tried taking a driving test.

24-year-old Zhiar Rostam, Birmingham, was jailed for six months by the judge at Coventry Crown Court. After jailing him, the judge said that he had to make an example of him.

Sally Cairns defended him and said that he has some emotional difficulties, as in 2002 he went to Iraq where his family was mistreated.

In 2003, the detectives in Alum Rock discovered a scam, which could have put many drivers on the roads who never passed their driving test.

Heel-Toe down shifting is becoming popular in certain areas such as Streatham, Kingston and Putney.

Professional driving schools and qualified driving instructors are offering to teach heel-toe downshifting. Ask at your local driving school in Streatham, Kingston and Putney for more information about the cost of a heel- to toe downshifting course.

Qualified drivers who decide to learn this technique will go through a process of learning how to match RPM’s of a cars transmission and at the same time they will have to match the RPM’s of the cars engine.

A qualified driving instructor will show you how to keep the car stable and balanced as you brake and downshift on each lap. Every time you complete a lap the next one will be faster.

The correct car for heel-toe down shifting is one that allows you to move your foot from the brake to the accelerator while still being in charge of the throttle and steering wheel.

Do not attempt this without taking advice from a driving school who has qualified driving instructors with experience of heel-toe downshifting. If you are unsure of what the course involves, before committing yourself and signing up to a course talk to a qualified driving instructor in Kingston, Streatham and Putney.

According to the Highway Code OAP scooter drivers are allowed to drive on UK roads as long as the scooter travels up to eight miles per hour. The Highway Code states if a scooter travels for less than four miles per hour then drivers have to drive on the pavements.

There are a large percentage of drivers on our roads today who have complained to the police about the scooters being on the busy roads. Some drivers have hurled abuse and have been rude to the scooter drivers as they pass them on the road.

Police have reported that drivers have been seen shouting and swearing at the OAP scooter drivers. This has resulted in children following their example and joined in with rude gestures and other verbal abuse.

The police have asked for more consideration to be shown to OAP scooter drivers who are driving a legal mode of transport. OAP drivers who drive the scooters are disabled and depend on the scooters to keep them mobile while keeping their independence.

The Highway Code booklet supports the OAP scooter drivers and the police have confirmed they are not breaking the law by driving on the roads. The Highway Code is something that you now must learn as part of your driving test. Driving lessons are available in Putney, Kingston and Streatham.

Comprehensive and third party car insurance

It has been reported by Sainsbury Finance there is an upward trend towards using the cheapest car insurance in order to save costs.

A large percentage of car owners who have comprehensive cover on their vehicles are now downgrading the policy to third party cover.

The research showed comprehensive covers for cars was eleven times more expensive than the car insurance policies which offered less protection.

The result shows that short term savings can be made, but in the event of an accident car owners will be paying out more in repairs. The cost to have their vehicle back on the road may work out more than the original premium quoted for a fully comprehensive cover.

The survey showed that most car owners would be more in favour of buying a second-hand car rather that a new one due to the overall cost of car insurance.

If you are in an accident it will help to speed up your claim if you have all the information available for your insurance provider.

Details required by the car insurers are as follows:

  • The model of the car and the registration number.
  • The extent of the damage to the car, and is the car is driveable.
  • Name and address of the other driver involved in the accident.

Mr Norman Lacy drives a mobility scooter on the road which is taxed and insured for him to drive.

Mr Lacy who lives in Burton is now unable to walk or stand as he suffers from multiple sclerosis and would not be mobile without his scooter. He has reported drivers shouting and swearing at him for driving on the road. Mr Lacy commented that male drivers and children are the worse culprits with their swearing and making rude gestures at him while he is driving his scooter.

A bus driver was reported to have honked his horn at Mr Lace at least twenty times and others just shout and swear from both sides of the road.

It clearly states in the Highway Code that scooter drivers who have purchased scooters which travel up to eight miles per hour are allowed to use the roads. Mr Lacey’s scooter complies with the law. However, scooters which travel under a speed of four miles per hour are confined to the pavement.

According to a spokesperson from the local constabulary, all drivers should show more sympathy and respect for the drivers of these scooters as they are lawfully entitled to drive on our roads.

There is no excuse for people showing a bad attitude towards scooter drivers who are using scooters on the roads. Mobility scooters are an essential mode of transport and extremely beneficial for disabled people who would have no quality of life without them.
