“Detailed discussions of the theory behind driving put everything in context and made everything understandable”

I have had several lessons with Affinity Driving School under the instruction of Suresh. He has been a very capable instructor with a personal and friendly style of teaching which makes lessons relaxed and enjoyable. The lessons are set at a pace which suits me, however Suresh pushes me just the right amount to ensure that I develop. At the start of each lesson, we discuss in detail the theory behind driving which makes everything much more in context and understandable. I would definately recommend Affinity Driving School to anyone wishing to learn to drive.

Areas to do Controls/Moving off & Stopping

It is best to start this subject on a quiet road like Sandy Lane.  Certain parts of Sandy Lane can also be used for uphill starts.

Left/Right turns and emerging at T-Junctions

ADS recommend doing a circuit which starts on Sandy Lane, turns left on to High View and then takes the second left on to Onslow Avenue.  At the end of Onslow Avenue we can emerge right on to Warren Avenue and take the first right on to Wilbury Avenue.  If we emerge right we are back on to  High View. We can then take the second left back on to Onslow Avenue.  At the end of Onslow Avenue we can emerge left back on to Warren Avenue and then turn left back to Sandy Lane.  This allows the learner to practice steering, MSPSL and Peep and Creep techniques.

Crossroads

The crossroads of The Broadway,  Station Way,  Ewell Road and High Street can be used to illustrate priorities and the extra observation applied at crossroads. This junction can also be used to provide instruction on the methods of turning right-to-right at a crossroads.

Meeting Traffic

Meeting traffic is a situation where two vehicles are trying to pass through a space where only one car can pass. In these situations it is often vital to read the body language of the other vehicle. This is especially so where there are cars on both sides of the road and no priority exists. Mulgrave Road is perfect to develop experience and understanding of this difficult topic.

Roundabouts

The roundabout where Cheam Road and Northey Avenue come together; can be used to illustrate priorities, methods of positioning and the appropriate signals for a given exit.

Pedestrian Crossings and use of Signals

Driving down London Road into Stonecot Hill there are plenty of crossings which can be used to demonstrate the various different types of crossings and the rules applying to road markings. Planning issues can also be addressed on this route.

Areas to do manoeuvres

The  Reverse around the Corner exercise can be carried out where The Dene meets High View. The parallel park can be done in Onslow Avenue. The Turn in the Road is easily demonstrated on Shirley Avenue.
