I am writing to thank the school for providing me with the skills to pass my driving test.

Having failed my driving test twice thirteen years ago and having not been behind the wheel since, I was quite wary about trying again. But my instructor, Martin, made me feel completely at ease. The course had more structure than my lessons years ago and, I have to say, the professionalism and manner in which Martin teaches had me wishing I'd been able to learn from someone like him from the start. I think he must be the most patient person I have met!”

Driving Schools Southfields (SW18 & SW19)

Areas to do controls/Moving off & Stopping

Sispara Gardens is a quiet street where the student can learn how to start and stop, and familiarize themselves with the controls in the car.

Left/Right turns and emerging at T-Junctions

Affinity Driving School recommends the following circuit for carrying out turns and emerging at T-junctions:

Begin along Melrose Road. At the end of the road emerge right on to West Hill Road and then take the second right on to Wimbledon Park Road. Emerging left takes us on to Merton Road. Taking the second available left leads us on to Lebanon Gardens. Following this road to the left we can emerge right back on to Merton Road. Taking the first right takes us back again on to Wimbledon Park Road. Emerging right leads us on to West Hill Road. If we take the second left we are on Viewfield Road. From here we can take the second turning left back on to Melrose Road.

This circuit provides a good, quiet route to practice steering, MSPSL and peep and creep techniques.

Meeting Traffic

For learning about meeting traffic - when a road only has space for one car to pass, try Clonmore Street. It is quiet and provides a good environment to practice this aspect of driving.

Crossroads

The crossroads of Augustus Road, Replingham Road and Wimbledon Park Road can be used to illustrate priorities and the extra observation applied at crossroads. This junction can also be used to provide instruction on the methods of turning right-to-right at a crossroads

Roundabouts

The roundabout where Augustus Road and Victoria Drive come together; can be used to illustrate priorities and the appropriate signals for a given exit. For a bigger roundabout try Tibbets Corner.

Pedestrian Crossings and use of Signals

For pedestrian crossings and signals, Merton Road provides the learner with plenty of good practice.

Areas to do Maneuvers

Melrose Road is a good place for practicing the turn in the road and parallel park exercises. Reversing around the corner can be practiced at the intersection of Viewfield Road and Melrose Road.
