Please see the information below which is intended to help develop your key driving competencies further. It has been provided by our fully DSA-licensed driving instructors.
Areas to do controls/Moving off & Stopping
Take a right turn off Putney Health and there is a good place to practice on Dover Park Drive.
Left/Right turns and emerging at T-Junctions
The following circuit is recommended by WDS: Begin on Westmead and turn and emerge left on to Dover Park Drive. Take a left on to Parkmead, and another left which takes you back on to Dover House Road. The student should then turn right on to Coppice, and left on to Longwood Drive. One more left takes the student back to Westmead. Steering, MSPSL and Peep and Creep techniques can be practiced here.
Crossroads
Westmead which is situated near Putney Heath has some suitable crossroads for practicing the correct technique for navigating them safely. Priorities and the extra observation required can be illustrated here. Where Upper Richmond Road meets Putney Hill is a suitable place for developing the student’s understanding of right-to-right turns at crossroads.
Roundabouts
For mini roundabouts, try Putney Health and Castello and Genoa Avenue. Try Tibbets for practice on a large 3 lane roundabout.
Pedestrian Crossings and use of Signals
There are various crossings, signals and the relevant road markings to be found driving down Putney Hill from Putney Heath and then turning left down onto Upper Richmond Road. This road also enables planning issues to be addressed.
Areas to do Maneuvers
A quiet road like Parkmead Road near to Putney Heath is ideal for maneuvers.
