Areas to do controls/Moving off & Stopping
Herondale Avenue is a quiet street where the student can learn how to start and stop, and familiarize themselves with the controls in the car.
Left/Right turns and emerging at T-Junctions
Affinity Driving School recommends the following circuit for carrying out turns and emerging at T-junctions:
Begin along Herondale Avenue. At the end of the road emerge right on to Ellerton Road and then take the second right on to Loxley Road. From here turn right onto Lyford Road. Next take the first right on to Frewin Road and at the end of this road emerge left which takes you back on to Ellerton Road. Taking the first left, the student will be back on Herondale Avenue.
This circuit provides a good, quiet route to practice steering, MSPSL and peep and creep techniques. Meeting Traffic
For learning about meeting traffic - when a road only has space for one car to pass, try Isis Road. It is quiet and provides a good environment to practice this aspect of driving.
Roundabouts
On Burntwood Lane (B229) there is a roundabout where the student can gain an understanding of how to negotiate roundabouts safely. Priorities and signaling can all be practiced at this roundabout.
Pedestrian Crossings and use of Signals
For pedestrian crossings and signals, Garratt Lane provides the learner with plenty of good practice.
Areas to do Maneuvers
Herondale Avenue is a good place for practicing the turn in the road and parallel park exercises. Reversing around the corner can be practiced at the intersection of Lyminge Gardens and Collamore Avenue.
