Please see the information below which is designed to enable learners to practice key driving skills in tried and trusted areas. These are the areas used by our Richmond based driving instructors to train their learners around Richmond.
Areas to do controls/Moving off & Stopping
North Road is a good place to begin practicing moving off and stopping and learning how to use the controls.
Left/Right turns and emerging at T-Junctions
The circuit ADS recommends begins on Ennerdale Road. From here we turn right on to Fitzwilliam Avenue. At the end of Fitzwilliam Avenue emerge right on to Gainsborough Road and at the end of this road emerge left on to Sandycombe Road. Taking the seventh left takes us on to The Avenue and turning left at the crossroads takes us back on to Ennerdale Road. If we turn left on to Fitzwilliam Avenue again we are able to restart our route. This circuit provides a tried and tested method for allowing the student to practice steering, MSPSL and peep and creep techniques.
Roundabouts
The Manor Circus or Richmond Circus roundabouts are good roundabouts to learn about methods of positioning, priorities and the necessary signals to be used for any exit.
Crossroads
Where Fitzwilliam Avenue and Ennerdale Road meet is a suitable crossroad to learn about priorities and the necessary extra observation required at crossroads.
Pedestrian Crossings and use of Signals
Kew Road and Richmond Town Centre provide plenty of pedestrian crossings and signals to enable the student to familiarize themselves with the varying types.
Areas to do maneuvers
Reversing around the corner can be rehearsed on the corner of Ennerdale Road and either Walpole Avenue or Eversfield Road. Parallel parking can also be carried out safely on Ennerdale as can the turn in the road exercise.
